Two police officers escaped serious injury when their vehicle was deliberately rammed while they were patrolling streets on the Mackay city fringe Wednesday night.
The officers were driving on Norris Street about 6.40pm when they tried to stop a Toyota sedan, and it struck them.
The police vehicle was significantly damaged at the front end and needed to be towed from the scene.
A male officer, who was the driver, was taken to hospital for precautionary scans; while a second male officer, who was the passenger, was not hurt and continued with their duties.
The suspected vehicle was found abandoned about 7.45pm in a nearby suburb.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to come forward and speak with police.
The drama comes after an alleged hit and run traffic crash that injured a police officer in Bundaberg on Sunday.
