A beloved diesel fitter, motorbike enthusiast and father from North Queensland is being mourned after he was tragically killed in an alleged hit-and-run.
Malcolm Anderson Langtree, affectionately known as ‘Andy’, 68, died of critical injuries following a crash allegedly involving his friend of 40 years, Ronald Madden, who now faces serious charges over the incident.
He worked as a diesel fitter at Goonyella Riverside mines and lived in Dumbleton near Mackay, after relocating from Moranbah.
The pair were riding with a group of friends when the crash occurred near Booyal on November 17, 2024.
Friend and fellow motorcyclist enthusiast, Matty Harkin, posted alongside a photo of Mr Langtree on Monday: “Another long time great mate and motorcycle brother gone at what he loved doing”.
Plans for a Rebels’ send off are yet to be confirmed but Mr Harkin described Andy as a great bloke and gentleman.
He said he’d been at Goonyella Riverside for 40 years and was a well known and much loved member of the Moranbah mining community.
James Van Eldik commented: “That’s so sad mate, great bloke.”
“Gone too soon, RIP Andy.”
Another friend, Stephen Jack Frost, also shared his condolences.
“RIP Andy, sad news indeed you will be missed brother,” he wrote.
“Ride high in the forever chapter”
“Condolences to Andy’s family and friends,” Lynne Osbourne wrote.
“He was a top bloke and will be deeply and very sadly missed.”
Mr Madden, 69, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and leaving the scene without obtaining help in relation to the accident, and will face Bundaberg Magistrate Court on December 2, 2024.
He is yet to enter pleas to the charges.
