A crime scene has been declared after a home was engulfed in flames south of Mackay with detectives investigating the cause of the fire.
The abandoned property, on Brandon St at Sarina, was fully alight when emergency crews arrived about 8pm Monday.
One neighbour who had seen the house engulf in flames from her veranda said she saw a boy jump the fence of the burning home.
“I just seen a kid jump through the fence and walk straight through as the fireys got all their gear on to go inside,” she said.
Police, who were called to the address by the Queensland Fire Department, declared a crime scene just after 9pm.
A QFD spokeswoman said fire crews were called to the single-storey home, which was unoccupied at the time, and it took them about two hours to get the blaze under control by about 10pm.
However it is understood the fire restarted during the night.
The site remains a crime scene with both Criminal Investigation Branch detectives and fire investigators expected investigate the home today.
It is understood the home was still too hot overnight to attempt to find where the fire started.
