From a ‘bomb’ attack to a bikie drug run, the shocking story of a pregnant woman caught with $250k of meth on the Bruce Hway has unfolded in a Qld court.

Lily Francis Hounslow, now 26, was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton this week after being intercepted on the Beef Capital’s Neville Hewitt Bridge on October 20, 2022 with 1.993kg substance containing 1.513kg of pure meth concealed in five large clip-seal bags in the tail-lights of a Volkswagen Amarok.

A now-pregnant drug mule busted with $250,000 of methamphetamines on the Bruce Highway claims she didn’t know she was working for outlaw bikie gangs, a court has heard.

Justice Crow said the meth was worth about $250,000.

He said police also located 59.1 grams of pure cocaine in 248.5g of substance which had a street value of about $80,000.

Justice Crow said Hounslow told police she was travelling to Mackay and the car belonged to “a friend of a friend”.

Defence barrister Jeffrey Hunter shed light on how the former hairdresser came to be travelling north that day towards Mackay.

He said she was driving to Mackay for a couple she knew , not knowing the drugs belonged to outlaw bikies.

Mr Hunter claimed Hounslow had fled a domestic violence situation where the alleged offender was a drug user who served time in prison and he had tracked her down after he was released as she had fled and he threatened to kill her.

He also claimed it involved her being seriously injured to the point she could no longer work as a hairdresser and she was too ashamed to go to her family for help.

“He threw a bomb at her, which broke, lacerating her arm and causing damage to her, some tendons in her arm, that required surgery,” Mr Hunter said.

“Her parents did not approve of that relationship, unsurprisingly, and he (partner) did his best to ensure that there were difficulties in my client maintaining a relationship with her parents.”

Crown prosecutor Joshua Phillips said the only evidence of the alleged domestic violence acts the court heard Hounslow suffered was from her narrative.

Mr Hunter provided copies of two domestic violence orders – one naming Hounslow as an aggrieved and the other as an associate of an aggrieved.

He said after she managed to escape that relationship, she was estranged from her family and “she was vulnerable and alone”.

Mr Hunter said Hounslow claimed she didn’t know the particular amount of drugs she transported nor about the bikies involved in the background.

Mr Phillips said the defendant’s legal team only recently claimed Hounslow was paid to transport the drugs.

He said this was an aggravating matter which was not disputed.

Mr Hunter said Hounslow was shocked when she found out she was pregnant.

He said she claims that after a previous miscarriage she was told it was unlikely she could ever fall pregnant ever again because she had an ovarian cyst, so she and her current partner had not used contraception.

Mr Hunter said his client claimed she “actively contemplated terminating the pregnancy” because of what going to prison would put her and the child through, but conversations with her family and partner (all who were in court to support her) convinced her otherwise due to this possibly being her only chance to have a child.

“There’s a real likelihood that this child will be removed (after birth),”he said.

“Fortunately, it seems likely that if it is removed, it’ll be removed into the care of its grandmother (Hounslow’s mother).”

Mr Hunter’s comments about the removal of Hounslow’s baby came after he submitted a letter from the Sisters Inside advocacy group.

Mr Phillips said the letter “speaks about their general experience” and “does not speak to what is going to occur in this particular case”.

“The short point is it’s entirely speculative what will happen with her and her unborn child in a custodial setting,” he said.

Mr Phillips said it was already known generally that some children stay with their mothers and some don’t.

The court heard Hounslow herself did not use drugs and since this offence, had established a business in the Toowoomba CBD with the aid of her stepfather which will operate while she serves her time in prison.

Hounslow pleaded guilty to one count of possessing more than 200 grams of a schedule one drug and one count of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug.

She was sentenced to six years prison with 19 days presentence custody declared as time already served and parole eligibility from May 12, 2026.
