A Central Queensland mum waiting behind bars is nearing her trial more than a year after she was accused of stabbing her 17-year-old daughter multiple times.

A mother charged with attempting to kill her daughter has had a psychiatric report done as lawyers prepare for her trial.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of stabbing the 17 year old girl in the chest six times on July 18, 2022 at a Dysart address.

Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Erin Beer told Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday the woman’s psychological assessment had been completed on whether she was mentally fit to stand trial.

“We’ve now received a copy of the psychiatric report,” Ms Beer said.

“We are seeking an adjournment of three weeks to allow time for instructions to be confirmed.”

Magistrate Damien Dwyer said it was clear “at this stage” the trial would be going ahead.

The mother is charged with attempt to murder (domestic violence offence), common assault, and serious assault resisting or obstructing a police officer or a person acting in aid of a police officer.

Ms Beer said she had a video-link call with the defendant that evening to discuss her instructions.

The court heard the mother had been remanded at Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre for 423 days pre-sentence custody since the incident.

The matter was adjourned to October with the woman’s appearance excused.
