A man has been charged after another man was allegedly stabbed in a fight between the pair in North Mackay.

Several police crews swarmed Canberra St just after 11am with reports a 50-year-old man had suffered a stab wound to his upper arm.

Police allege two men, who knew each other, argued outside a home resulting in one man being stabbed.

It is further alleged a 26-year-old North Mackay man fled the scene on foot but was arrested soon after at a nearby shopping centre.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics treated the older man at the scene before he was taken to Mackay Base Hospital.

He remained in a stable condition late Sunday.
