A young mum’s attempts to resolve her prison drug smuggle charge fell short when an apologetic Ipswich magistrate was forced to turn her away.

A Brisbane mum has fronted court accused of smuggling drugs into a west Brisbane prison, but her plea to progress the matter was rejected.

Acacia Ridge resident Jean Javier Meincke, 26, stands charged with one count of aggravated supply of dangerous drugs within a correctional facility.

It is alleged Ms Meincke supplied the heroin replacement drug buprenorphine in a correctional facility in Wacol on November 9 last year.

Ms Meincke came to Ipswich Magistrates Court for mention on June 23, accompanied by her young child in a pram.

Ms Meincke offered the court a written plea of guilty, indicating she was eager to progress the matter.

But Magistrate Melanie Ho told her the plea could not be accepted in that format.

Ms Meincke told the court she was confused why her charge had been transferred over from Brisbane Magistrates Court.

She said the matter had been mentioned multiple times in Brisbane, where she said it was supposed to progress, but they’d “just been kicking it back and forth between the courts”.

Ms Ho told her that her matter could not progress in Ipswich, however, as Wacol was in the Richlands jurisdiction.

She said the matter would have to be transferred to back to Richlands, where it could then be transferred to the Brisbane office of the Director of Public Prosecutions

“I can understand the frustration about wanting to plead guilty,” Ms Ho said.

“Unfortunately there is nothing I can do.”

“Really it should have gone straight to Richlands; all I can do is apologise for that.”

Ms Ho adjourned the matter to Friday, June 30, at Richlands Magistrates’ Court.
