A devestated Deebing Heights family has been seen moving their belongings from their home this afternoon after a pump on the back of a truck crashed through the roof and into a bedroom.

Just after 10am this morning, June 23, a pump attached to a truck collapsed onto a home in the southwest Ipswich suburb, slicing through the roof and into a bedroom at the front of the house.

The scene was at a standstill throughout the afternoon as Workplace Health and Safety ensured the metres-tall construction equipment could be removed safely.

Family could be seen moving suitcases of belongings from their home, and were left to watch from across the street as workers decided how best to remove the massive pipe.

Around 4pm Barnes and Auto Co workers started sawing through metal beams in hopes to move safety pieces in smaller sections.

Homeowner Melinda Stuart said her family was left thanking a higher power as she and her son were home when the pump collapsed through the little boy’s bedroom.

“I was in the other room and I just thought ‘what the f — k?’

Ms Stuart said they could hardly bear thinking about what might have been the result if her son had been asleep still.

“Someone was watching over us,” Ms Stuart said.

They had been due to have friends, with a newborn and a toddler, over at the house this morning but the friends had been running late.

Ms Stuart said her son said he felt like “he was still in a dream”.

The family had only lived in the brand new build for two years when the shocking event happened, and they are now homeless.

The incident took place on the corner of Emma Street and Andy Way.

It is understood the equipment was being used as part of completing the concrete slab for the construction of a new Coral Homes house.

Coral Homes general manager of construction Ben Garland said the business’ primary concern was for the family affected.

“It’s obviously a very serious incident,” he said.

“We are very thankful no one was hurt and we will be working with the family.

“Safety is our number one priority on our sites and we are going to get to the bottom of how this happened.”

A spokesperson for Workplace Helath and Safety confirmed the department were investigating the incident.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating an incident in Deebing Heights, Ipswich,” they said.

“As this is a current investigation, WHSQ is unable to provide further information at this time.”

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said a construction apparatus on the back on the truck fell onto the home around 10am.

Paramedics attended the scene but no one suffered any injuries or needed treatment.
