A disability pensioner sent an email to a federal MP threatening to go on “an anti-racist killing spree” to remove “leftist low-life scum”.
Shane Douglas Gentry-Pike, 57, suggested “horrible white straight men” like him needed protection from minority groups.
Initially, the Ipswich man sent a bizarre email on February 14, 2022 to the office of Fisher MP Andrew Wallace asking for him to print “as many T-shirts as possible” with the slogan “a vote for Labor is a vote for China”.
Mr Wallace responded telling Gentry-Pike he was unable to help with his request.
Gentry-Pike sent another email on March 23, 2022 in response, slamming Mr Wallace for not spending a small amount of money to fight the “leftist low-life scum”.
“You know what type of scum the left consists of? Barely even human,” he wrote.
“The planet is way overpopulated with these leftist low-life scum.
“We see them on the news every single day screaming at we horrible white straight men.
“The scum must be taken out big time.”
Gentry-Pike continued further in his email with a threat that prompted a staffer at the MP’s Sunshine Coast office to contact police.
“It’s now at a point where legislation had better catch up and fast because next time some racist black pile of garbage aims their racism at me or my family, I will go on an anti-racist killing spree.”
Gentry-Pike pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates Court to using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence over the email sent last year.
He was also sentenced for failing to appear at his previous court date in September last year.
Gentry-Pike said he had been experiencing Covid symptoms but the prosecution disputed his claim.
Magistrate David Shepherd scolded Gentry-Pike’s “tribalistic attitude”.
“If you want to put a point across — and by all means do so — but do so in a manner which gives your point some validity rather than taking away from that by using extreme language and racist language to try and get that point across,” he said.
Mr Gentry-Pike was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond for the email and fined a further $250 for failing to appear in court.
A conviction was recorded.
