Funeral for ‘dearly loved’ grandfather Tony Walker, Eastern Heights, after Raceview mobility scooter tragedy
An “adored” grandfather has been identified as the man killed in a tragic traffic crash involving a mobility scooter in Ipswich earlier this month.

A beloved husband, father and grandfather will be remembered at a funeral service in Ipswich later this week following his tragic death in a mobility scooter crash.
John Charles Anthony "Tony" Walker died aged 80 on January 4, 2024, in a traffic crash in Raceview.
The Eastern Heights resident was riding a motorised wheelchair when it collided with a car near a pedestrian refuge island around 1pm.
Mr Walker was declared deceased at the scene, while the 86-year-old Eastern Heights woman driving the car was taken to Ipswich Hospital.
The crash, triggered a community debate over whether the road needed safety improvements.
Mr Walker leaves behind wife Helen, and was the “dearly loved” father and father-in-law of Amy, Kerry, Jane and Ewan.
He was also the “adored Papa” to Brennan, Lachlan, Arlan, and Matthew.
It’s understood Mr Walker was a supporter of community organisation Ipswich Men’s Shed, who said they were saddened to hear of the tragedy.
A funeral will be held for Mr Walker at 2pm this Friday, January 19, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Brisbane Street, Ipswich.
Family and friends are invited to attend.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
