A 25-year-old woman has been ordered to stay clear of her ex-neighbour after waging a campaign of fear against her, saying she would “slash (her) family’s throat” and “murder her”.

Shyanne Maree Whatley faced Gympie Magistrate Court Tuesday over her stalking and intimidation of her ex-neighbour, one of a dozen offences committed throughout 2024.

Police Prosecutor Allison Johnstone said Whatley’s “persistent abuse” across a month-long period from April 1 to May 11 left the woman and her son so in fear for her safety she installed CCTV cameras around their home.

Whatley’s’ threats included telling the woman she would “legit slash your family’s throats” and “murder her”.

On another occasion Whatley told the woman “if I was your mother, I would’ve smashed your guts in”.

Sgt Johnstone said the rants and threats went on for 30 or 40 minutes at a time, and Whatley’s neighbour started recording them as evidence and became too afraid to spend time in and around her home, Sgt Johnstone said.

Two months after terrorising her neighbour, between August 1 and August 4, Whatley broke into Gympie Anglicare and stole the charity’s Toyota Corolla.

The stolen Corolla was later found crashed into a tree.

It was one of two cars Whatley stole.

The other was a theft at Archerfield on July 13, when she took a car on a test drive and never returned it.

Magistrate Bevan Hughes accepted there was a “history” between the 25-year-old and her neighbour, and she was “drug-affected” at the time.

He sentenced Whatley to six months’ jail with a parole release date of October 17, 2024, saying he was “personally disappointed” by her repeated breaches of bail.

“That was me granting you bail on conditions so could get a mental health plan to help you address the issues, ” Mr Hughes said.

“I gave you so many chances.”

The 25-year-old was also restrained from going anywhere near her former neighbour until 2029.
