Committal hearing for 14yo girl charged with murder to be held in Hervey Bay

The case against a 14-year-old girl who allegedly stabbed a man 10 years her senior at a Pt Vernon caravan park is now ready to proceed through the courts.
The young teen, who cannot be named, was charged with murder after allegedly stabbing 24-year-old Stewart Wallace-Cuneo in the back at the BIG4 Holiday Park.
Police will allege the two had known each other for only a matter of hours beforehand and that the teen and another girl had been left without supervision and in possession of alcohol and drugs.
On Wednesday, April 16 at the Hervey Bay Children’s Court, defence lawyer Deborah Kilroy was seeking committal directions.
Police prosecutor Stuart Lydford said it would be expected some cross-examination of witnesses would happen when the committal hearing got underway.
Magistrate McGarvie listed the matter for a directions hearing on July 7, while the official committal hearing will be listed for July 29.
The girl will remain in custody and be required to attend on July 7.
