A Gympie dad, who didn’t complete his community service order after a drunken street fight that left a man in a coma, has been re-sentenced.

A Gympie father, who took part in a drunken street fight that left a man in an induced coma, has been re-sentenced after failing to complete his community service requirements in time.

Joshua Beau Searle, 23, was previously given 120 hours of community service for affray in addition to a jail sentence with immediate parole for assault occasioning bodily harm.

He’d been involved in a public fight which left a man with serious head injuries.

Gympie District Court heard on Monday Searle had 12 months to complete his 120 hours at the Salvation Army but still had a remaining 36 hours to complete when the deadline passed.

Searle previously had his license disqualified and claimed he struggled getting to the Salvation Army store.

However, he was offered a lift to the store and given the option of home tasks for the Salvation Army manager, the court heard.

Searle intended to complete his remaining hours whether he was sentenced or not and would take up his manager’s offer.

As a result, he was sentenced to complete another 40 hours of community service at the Salvation Army in Gympie and was given six months to complete the hours.
