A young Curra man remains behind bars for trying to sell a weapon to a potential buyer who said he was “dreaming” after he was on parole for previous offences.

Jeremy Dennis Coman, 23, pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on November 7 via video link to supplying a firearm.

Police seized property, including a mobile phone, of an arrested man on May 16 regarding a different matter, where an exchange of text messages were found.

The conversation began four days prior at 12.16pm when Coman contacted the man offering a .22 calibre firearm for purchase on behalf of an associate.

“These messages indicate the defendant has also further tried to supply the same firearm to a number of additional associates,” police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said.

“How much do you want for it?” the man’s text message stated.

Coman asked for $1000 in exchange for .22 single shot sawed-off shotgun.

“You’re dreaming,” the man responded.

There was no evidence the transaction was ever completed.

Coman was previously sentenced to three years imprisonment in November 2020 following unlawful wounding and break-and-enter and was released on parole for 15 months in 2021.

He spent five months in pre-sentence custody after he was arrested on June 8 and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for supplying weapons.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan said Coman was eligible for parole on Monday but warned the application process “will take some time”.
