What started as a standard police stop ended in a surprise weapon discovery and drug driving bust.
Shannon Peter Lloyd Faddy appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court on July 17 after police caught him driving with a disqualified licence.
Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said police pulled over Faddy’s Ford during a patrol on Bayside Rd in Cooloola Cove shortly after midday on April 6.
When Faddy was asked why he was driving on a disqualified licence, he said “he needed to collect (material) for work purposes”, the court was told.
Officers then searched the 41-year-old’s car for dangerous drugs and Faddy told them there was a knuckle duster inside his vehicle, which he “had purchased from an e-commerce platform”, Sgt Campbell said.
She said Faddy submitted to a roadside drug test, and methamphetamine and THC were found in his system.
The court was told the Gympie father, who has worked in numerous trade jobs and received government benefits, had a 10-page traffic history and a three-page criminal history which Magistrate Bevan Hughes said was “significant”.
“I send people to prison for (disqualified driving),” Magistrate Hughes said.
“Don’t be tempted, you’re better off in the community walking around than walking around in a cell.”
Faddy had his licence disqualified for a further two years for driving with a disqualified licence, and one month for driving under the influence of drugs.
The Magistrate ordered his knuckle dusters to be forfeited and issued a total fine of $1200.
