Gympie man guilty of sickening assaults, child cruelty
The man will await sentencing in jail while his lawyers prepare a psychological assessment of him, after he pleaded guilty to six charges in the Gympie District Court on Friday.

A Gympie region man has been remanded in custody to await sentencing after he pleaded guilty to repeated domestic violence assaults and cruelty to a child under 16 in the Gympie District Court this week.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via videolink in the courtroom on Friday morning (July 16) to be arraigned on six charges.
He pleaded guilty to five charges of assault occasioning bodily harm as a domestic violence offence on unknown dates between March and August 2017.
He also pleaded guilty to the additional charge of cruelty to a child aged under 16, which was committed in the same time frame.
The man’s defence lawyer told Judge Nathan Jarro they were in the process of obtaining a psychological report on the man, with funding provided from Legal Aid.

Judge Jarro transferred the man’s sentencing to the Maroochydore District Court on a date to be determined.
The man was remanded in custody until that date.
