Australia’s first and only Indigenous circus troupe is coming to Gympie in August.
Casus Circus will perform Chasing Smoke at the Gympie Pavilion at 4pm Saturday, August 7, where audiences will be taken on a journey celebrating survival, modern-day Aboriginality and pride.
The show features the crew as they stomp, dance and weave their message to illustrate 65,000 years of old-time ways through a modern performance.
Reporter Kate Uren described the performance as “living up to its hype” in her review for the Adelaide Advertiser.
“It splices moments of pathos — relaying the performers’ personal reflections of what their Aboriginality means to them — with laugh-out-loud stabs at stereotypes and historic segregation in Australia,” she said.
The performance is part of Gympie Regional Council’s Reset program, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
Tickets for the show can be purchased online here.
