Free Guide to Anzac Day in the Gympie region 2024
As the sun rose on April 25, 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers faced their first major battle of the First World War. They fought with endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour, and mateship – what we’ve come to know as the Anzac spirit. On Anzac Day, we honour their legacy and that of all who have followed in their footsteps.

Anzac Day, 25 April, marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces became known as the Anzacs, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day.
On Anzac Day, remembrance takes two forms – commemorative services are held at dawn, the time of the original landing in Gallipoli, and later in the day, ex-servicemen and women meet to take part in marches through the major cities and in many smaller centres to honour all those who have served.
Anzac Day in Gympie 2024
Wednesday, April 24:
1pm: Floral Dedication (Wreaths and Bouquets) at the First World War Memorial Gates in Mary Street, Gympie
5.30pm: Lighting of the Memorial Flame in Memorial Lanes in Reef Street, Gympie
Thursday, April 25:
The Gunfire Breakfast will be held in the Gympie RSL Club, Level 1, from 4am-4:30am, followed by the Dawn Service. After breakfast, veterans are invited to form up outside the club on Mary St and march to Memorial Park for the Dawn Service, beginning promptly at 5am.
5am: Dawn Service in Memorial Park, Reef Street, Gympie
7am: Commemoration Service at Normanby Hill Remembrance Park, Power Road, Southside
9am: Form up for Anzac Day March to take place down Mary Street at 9.30am
10.15am: Community Service in Memorial Park in Reef Street, Gympie

Anzac Day in Tin Can Bay 2024
Join the Anzac Day Dawn Service in Tin Can Bay – hosted by Tin Can Bay RSL Sub Branch – to honour all Australians and New Zealanders who have served or sacrificed in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations since World War I.
The Dawn Service will commence in the area behind the RSL hall at 45 Gympie Road 5:30am, April 25.
The gunfire breakfast originates from the hot drink historically made by British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers in the morning before battle.
It’s a chance for veterans, and communities, to enjoy shared camaraderie and pay tribute to those who have served.
After the Dawn Service, a Gunfire Breakfast will be available from 6:30am.
The main Tin Can Bay Anzac Day ceremony – hosted by Tin Can Bay RSL Sub Branch – will include the laying of wreaths, the playing of the Last Post and the observance of a minute’s silence.
The Anzac Day Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony will commence at 8:30am at Anzac Memorial Park. Following the service, all are welcome to return to the Tin Can Bay RSL Sub Branch for refreshments.

11am assemble at Kandanga Hall for midday march to Kandanga War Memorial followed by lunch at the Kandanga Hall for veterans, their families and invited guests only.
