2024 Anzac Day services planned for the Fraser Coast region

As a day nationally recognised for the opportunity to pay respect and acknowledge the Australian and New Zealand service men and women who have served, here’s a list of events you can plan to be at this Anzac Day.

It was fateful morning almost 110 years ago, when young men from across Australia and New Zealand found themselves on the shores of Gallipoli, marking a day which would remain forever ingrained in a shared consciousness of remembrance.

Anzac Day services planned for the Bundaberg region

As the world reflects on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for King and country, services are planned across the country for this year’s memorial Anzac Day events.

Hervey Bay

Dawn Service

Location: Freedom Park, Main Street, Pialba

Time: 5.15am

With the parade stepping off at 5.15am the full service is expected to begin from 5.30am onwards, with a Gunfire Breakfast provided from 6am onwards.

Main Service

Location: Freedom Park, Main Street, Pialba.

Time: 9.15 am

The second march of the morning will begin at 9.15am with the service expected to commence from 9.30am onwards. A luncheon will be available from 11.30am onwards for attendees.

Maryborough

Dawn Service

Location: Queens Park Cenotaph

Time: 5.15am

The Maryborough RSL Sub Branch will host the dawn service proceedings with the march stepping off at 5.15am for the service expected to begin at 5.45am. A Gunfire Breakfast will follow the morning’s ceremony at the Maryborough Services & Citizens Memorial Club, with wristbands required for entry.

Day March

Location: Along Adelaide Street, Maryborough

Time: 8.30am

Current and former Defence members, cadets and other members of the community are expected to participate in the annual day march which will make its way to the Cenotaph prior to the morning’s day ceremony.

Day Ceremony

Location: Cenotaph, Maryborough War Memorial, on the corner of Sussex and Bazaar Street

Time: 9.45am

A traditional day ceremony will be hosted by the Maryborough RSL Sub Branch following the conclusion of the day march along Adelaide Street.

Brooweena/Woocoo

Main Service

Location: Broweena War Memorial
Time: 9am
A morning tea will be provided by the Woocoo Historical Society following a poignant morning ceremony at the Broweena War Memorial.

Burrum Heads

Main Service

Location: Burrum Heads War Memorial

Time: 8.30am

Those attending the Burrum Heads memorial service will meet at 8am at the Burrum Heads Road Boat Ramp before the service commences at 8.30am.

Glenwood

Dawn Service

Location: Glenwood Memorial

Time: 5am

A poignant Dawn Service will be followed by an early morning Gunfire Breakfast. The service is from 4am at the Glenwood Memorial, with the $5 breakfast from 5.30 am onwards (veterans free).

Main Service

Location: Glenwood Memorial

Time: 10am

The mid morning service will also take place at the Glenwood Memorial following breakfasts hosted at the location.

Howard

Dawn Service

Location: Howard Cenotaph.

Time: 4.15am

Those marching in the Howard Dawn Service are expected to assemble at 4.15am, with a sombre poppy placing to take place at the Howard Cemetery at 5.15am followed by a Lone Pine Service at 5.50am.

Main Service

Location: Howard Cenotaph

Time: 7.15am

Following the dawn service, a march will assemble at the RSL Hall at 7.15am before marching to the Howard Cenotaph. A community breakfast behind the hall will be available from 8.20 am onwards.

K’Gari (Fraser Island)

Main Service

Location: Maheno Shipwreck

Time: 10am

A ceremony at the historic Maheno Shipwreck will take place on K’Gari from 10am.

Miva

Main Service

Location: Miva QCWA Hall

Time: 11am

A community service will take place at the Miva Hall this Anzac Day with a sausage sizzle and refreshments available for attendees after the morning’s events.

Poona

Dawn Service

Location: Poona War Memorial

Time: 6am

A Gunfire Breakfast will follow the mornings Dawn Service at the Poona War Memorial.

River Heads

Dawn Service

Location: River Heads Community Hall

Time: 5.30 am

For a small gold coin donation those attending the River Heads Dawn Service will be able to enjoy a breakfast at the Community Hall following the events.

Tiaro

Dawn Service

Location: Tiaro Cenotaph

Time: 5.45 am

Those marching in the Tiaro Dawn Service will assemble at the end of the Mayne Street Memorial Hall at 5.30am, with guests for the memorial event welcome to attend a community breakfast at the hall following the ceremony.

Tinana

Dawn Service

Location: Tiana War Memorial

Time: 5.40am

A memorial service will begin at 5.40am at the Tinana War Memorial for those wishing to pay their respects to those who have served.

Tinnanbar

Dawn Service

Location: Tinnanbar Flagpole, Pioneer Drive

Time: 5.30am

The Tinnanbar Flagpole will host the dawn service for the community from 5.30am onwards.

Toogoom

Dawn Service

Location: Cenotaph Gardens, Community Hall

Time: 5.45am

A morning Dawn Service will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast for a gold coin donation, with a light BBQ luncheon from midday for a small $6 fee.
