Jessica Greig has been described by her family as a “caring”, “dedicated” and “loving mother” after her life was tragically taken in a horror crash near Toowoomba.

The 29-year-old was a mother of three children, one of which was also killed in the accident on June 8, and practised as a nurse at the Gympie Hospital.

Jessica’s mother Ellen Turnbull said her daughter first started as a nurse at Buderim Private Hospital before moving to Noosa and then Gympie.

“I was a dedicated mum and she was a dedicated mum and we were really good friends and she has been a tower of strength for me and my husband,” Mrs Turnbull said.

“She has been a real rock for us over the last couple of years and pulled us together as a family and we have made some really good memories.

“She's just been absolutely amazing and we are really going to miss her.”

Jessica Greig, 29, and her daughter Giselle, 12, were both tragically killed in a truck and car crash near Toowoomba.

Mrs Turnbull said Jessica would often call whichever family member would pick up for a chat on her way to work and always made sure everyone around her was taken care of.

“We are really hearing that she was an advocate for people and she really cared about people being treated right and justly,” she said.

“She was all about making sure people were looked after well and I think that really came through in her nursing as well.

“She was an absolutely committed mother, her children were her world, she was a brilliant mum and great sister.”

Jessica’s young sister, Ashleigh Valentine, said Jessica became a mother at a young age but also achieved so much in her 29 years of life.

“She put herself through uni and became a nurse so she was a very hard worker but was well balanced in the sense of managing her work commitments and being a mum,” Ms Valentine said.

“She just had the most beautiful nature in that she just wanted to help everyone that she could.

“I think that had a massive impact on a lot of people, she put herself last and would put others first.”

Carolyn Elder organised a GoFundMe to support the family and was a good friend of Jessica’s through their daughters’ friendship.

Ms Elder described her friend as “bright, bubbly and caring” and said she would do anything for her children.

“April (Ms Elder’s daughter) and Giselle (Jessica’s daughter who died as a result of the accident) were best friends and if the girls were sleeping over at anyone’s house it was most likely each others,” Ms Elder said.

“April is taking it pretty hard and Jess was just amazing,”

Ms Elder said she hoped the fundraiser would give the Greig family the energy and strength they needed to get through this difficult time.

“It takes the element of concern out and stress is lifted so they can focus their energy on the other things they need to do and caring for those beautiful kids,” she said.

The children’s father, Alex Greig, is still fighting for life in hospital and his critical condition remains unchanged.
