A Central Queensland mother who smashed a car windscreen during the night before fleeing, has faced court to get her punishment.

Janelle Eva Kapay, 21, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to charges including wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said about 8.30pm on February 2, Kapay and the male victim were “having a few drinks” when she became aggressive during an argument.

Sgt Hoskins said after the man went to bed, he heard “a loud thud.”

He did not get out of bed to investigate but the next morning, he saw his car windscreen was smashed.

Sgt Hoskins said during police questioning, Kapay admitted to smashing the windscreen before leaving the residence but she did not say how she did it.

Kapay had a two-page criminal history.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said Kapay, a mother, had paid to repair the damage she caused.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Kapay $500 and a conviction was recorded.
