Luke Ian McLean jailed at Gladstone for drugs and weapons offences

A Central Queensland dad has been jailed after police found a handgun, a taser, multiple rounds of ammunition and drugs in his car during an intercept.

A Central Queensland dad whose criminal history is “littered with” drug offences has been jailed after being caught with a handgun in public.

Luke Ian McLean, 32, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court this week where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges including possessing a short firearm in public, possessing a weapon and explosives, and possessing dangerous drugs and drug items.

The court heard that on December 16, police intercepted McLean driving and his vehicle was then searched.

Inside a bag under a seat, police found an operational homemade taser and six rounds of ammunition.

Also in the car was a used glass (drug) pipe, 4g of methamphetamine, and more ammunition including 23 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition.

Police removed the centre console and found a handgun - it’s barrel appeared to be modified to accommodate .22 calibre ammunition, the court heard.

The court heard McLean had a seven-page criminal history which was “littered with” drug offences.

Solicitor Jun Pepito said McLean was a father of one and he had co-operated with police and made admissions.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced McLean to 12 months’ jail, declared 51 days’ pre-sentence custody as time served, and fixed parole at December 15, 2025.

Convictions were recorded.
