Gladstone June crime wrap: Hooning, juvenile assault, breath test refusal

Gladstone police have revealed details of the alleged offences and charges from this month, from a man doing burnouts in front of police to a juvenile charged with assault after he repeatedly hit a boy in the back of the head.

HOONING OFFENCES, WEST GLADSTONE

A 29-year-old man from Calliope was charged with hooning offences after he allegedly did burnouts in front of police.

On June 13 at approximately 10.30am, police were speaking to another man on Park St, West Gladstone, when the Calliope man allegedly pulled up in the middle of the road in a Holden ute and began a verbal altercation with police.

It is alleged police directed him to move his vehicle and he began to swear at police and conducted a burnout and drove away as police attempted to approach the vehicle.

It is further alleged, a few minutes later, he returned to the vehicle and recorded police on his phone and went on to do a second burnout in front of them.

He was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle, one count of wilfully make unnecessary noise or smoke, one count of use mobile phone, one count of unreasonably obstructing drivers or pedestrians and one count of fail to comply with requirement to stop private vehicle.

He is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 18.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES, GLADSTONE

A 32-year-old man from Kin Kora was charged after an alleged fuel drive-off at a service station before he crashed into a tree and failed to stop for police - all while his licence was disqualified.

The man allegedly drove off from a service station on French St, South Gladstone, in a white Hyundai Kona at 5.50am on June 11, without paying for his fuel.

On June 12, police were conducting patrols on Yarroon St, Gladstone Central, around 11.25pm when they spotted the man in the Kona.

It is alleged the man failed to stop for police.

The next day, June 13, the man was allegedly driving on Clarence Dr, New Auckland, when he crashed into a tree.

Police attended and checks revealed he was allegedly disqualified from driving.

He was charged with one count of stealing, three counts of driving unlicensed repeat offender, one count of fail to comply with requirement to stop private vehicle, one count of driving without due care and one count of contravene requirement of police officer.

He is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 4.

DRINK DRIVING, GLADSTONE CENTRAL

A 46-year-old man from Kirkwood was charged after he allegedly became aggressive with police when he was caught running a red light and refused to do a breath test.

The man was allegedly driving a black Mitsubishi Triton dual cab ute at 4.20pm on June 9 in Gladstone Central when he ran a red light.

Police intercepted the vehicle on Auckland St and the driver allegedly refused a breath test and was arrested and taken to Gladstone Police Station for further testing.

It is alleged he then became “aggressive” and had to be restrained and refused to provide a specimen of breath as required.

It was also allegedly discovered he was unlicensed at the time.

The man was charged with one count of failing to stop on red light, one count of drive unlicensed, one count of drive UIL, one count of fail to provide roadside, one count of obstruct police and one count of fail to provide BAS.

He is set to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 4.

ASSAULT OCCASIONING BODILY HARM, GLADSTONE CENTRAL

A juvenile has been charged after an assault against another juvenile.

It is alleged, on June 7 at approximately 3.15pm, a 14-year-old South Gladstone boy approached another boy at an address on Yarroon St, Gladstone Central, and “ continually hit the boy on the back of the head”.

It is alleged that the victim tried to leave on his bicycle and the boy pushed him off and began punching him in the back of the head and damaged his bicycle.

The 14-year-old South Gladstone boy was charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of wilful damage.

He is set to appear in the Gladstone Children‘s Court.
