Ashley Wovat charged for Gladstone Motorcycles ram-raid on June 14

A group of offenders allegedly used two stolen vehicles to smash in the front doors of a Gladstone shop and take a motorbike. One has faced court. See what happened.

A Rockhampton man has been charged over an alleged ram-raid at Gladstone Motorcycles earlier this month.

It was a devastating blow to the Toolooa Street business as the break-in came almost 12 months to the day since the last one.

Gladstone detectives shared footage of three people allegedly using two stolen vehicles to ram the glass doors of the front of the shop about 4.35am on Wednesday, June 14.

The group allegedly wheeled two motorbikes out the front however only left with one, a 2023 KTM 250 EXC-F Six Days.

The vehicles used in the alleged ram raid were reported stolen from Rockhampton the weekend prior.

A white 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan station wagon with Queensland registration 285WBD was allegedly stolen from Norman Gardens on Sunday, June 11.

This vehicle was reported as dumped in Rockhampton, found on the morning of Thursday, June 15 with two flat tyres.

The other vehicle was a white 2022 Mitsubishi Triton dual cab, with Queensland registration plates DIT71, allegedly stolen from Gracemere on Sunday, June 11.

Gladstone Motorcycles shared CCTV footage of the alleged incident and asked the public to keep an eye out for the stolen motorbike and if the bike or parts were advertised for sale.

The bike has been locked by the factory so will never start and has been marked with every KTM dealer Australia wide.

“This is starting to get out of hand,” the post read.

“It’s about time these people get the punishment they deserve.”

Park Avenue man Ashley Lawrence Wovat, 34, was charged over the incident and faced court in Rockhampton this week.

His charges included enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, unlicensed driving, stealing, breach of bail conditions and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to next appear in court on August 16.
