A young man may die from injuries police allege he suffered at the hands of two men during a pub fight at Gatton on Sunday night.
Police allege Mike Katui, 26, suffered life-threatening injuries at the hands of two men who were known to him - Michael Numdi, 49, and John Moses, 31.
The trio worked at Lockyer Valley farms picking produce, and were drinking at the Gatton Royal Hotel on September 3 when the alleged fight erupted.
Mr Katui was airlifted to the PA Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition with serious head wounds on Sunday and has been fighting for life in the intensive care unit.
On Thursday, September 7, a Toowoomba Magistrate Court was told Mr Katui’s condition was likely to change for the worse.
Police prosecutor Alister Windsor told magistrate Clare Kelly, his office was expecting an update on Mr Katui’s health.
Senior Constable Windsor said pending the information, the assault charges against Mr Numdi and Mr Moses were likely to be upgraded.
Earlier in the week, the court was told Mr Numdi and Mr Moses may apply for bail after spending four nights in the Toowoomba watch house.
However, given Mr Katui may die, the pair had their case moved to Friday, September 8,
when their charges are expected to be placed before the court.
As of Thursday, September 7, Mr Moses was charged with common assault and assault causing grievous bodily harm.
Mr Numdi 49, was charged with two counts of common assault and one charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm, and assault causing grievous bodily harm while armed in company.
