The case against a Hervey Bay teen charged with causing a deadly shed fire at Pacific Haven in 2022 was mentioned in Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The accused, who was a minor at the time of the incident, was arrested in Rockhampton at the age of 18, on June 24, 2024, and charged with arson, murder and burglary.

The shed fire took place on February 18, 2022, on Pacific Haven Drive in Pacific Haven, killing 50-year-old Damian Ramsey, who was living there.

The teen’s lawyer, Virginia Ukpabi, told the court on Wednesday she had received a brief of evidence relating to the charges, but wanted another adjournment for time to properly review it.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie warned Ms Ukpabi this would be the “final adjournment” so she could “find time for a committal proceeding if there are to be applications”.

Ms McGarvie also said that “matters shouldn’t just languish in the court list”.

The matter was adjourned to the final Children’s Court call-over of the year on December 18.
