A beloved son and father with the ‘biggest smile’ has been identified after a tragic death in custody incident in Maryborough.

A beloved son and father has been identified as the man who died in custody after an incident in Maryborough on July 27, 2024.

“Another beautiful soul taken too soon,” one friend wrote.

Emergency services were called to a motel on Alice St in Maryborough just before midday Saturday to conduct a welfare check on Mr Zemek.

He was allegedly acting erratically and officers restrained him before he was medically sedated and taken by ambulance to hospital, where he experienced a medical episode.

Mr Zemek was declared dead a short time later.

The incident is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner and investigations will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
