A police investigation continued on the Fraser Coast on Monday after a 30-year-old man from the Sunshine Coast died in custody on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a motel on Alice St in Maryborough just before midday Saturday to conduct a welfare check on a 30-year-old man.
He was allegedly acting erratically and officers restrained him before he was medically sedated and taken by ambulance to hospital, where he experienced a medical episode.
He was declared dead a short time later.
The incident is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner and investigations will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
In a statement, police said: “Information through QPS systems indicate the man is caucasian.
There is no further information at this time as the matter remains under investigation.”
Witnesses said the motel had been cordoned off and they had seen police and paramedics on scene.
The rear entry to the motel was also blocked by police, one witness said.
