A woman facing more than 30 charges for a string of sexual and violent offences including torture and rape, has told a magistrate her former lawyer did not tell them how extensive the list was.

The woman, who cannot be named, appeared by video link in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court facing a string of sexual and violent offences after she was charged on January 15, 2025.

The list includes five counts of torture, one count of rape, five counts of indecent treatment of a child, seventeen counts of common assault, two counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count of procuring a sexual act by threat or intimidation.

The woman told Magistrate Raelene Ellis her former lawyers, who were stood down from the matter at the beginning of her mention after she wrote a letter calling them off, did not do their job properly as she did not know some of the charges she was facing.

She then claimed some of her charges have a statute of limitations attached to them and continued to complain about her former lawyer’s perceived lack of action in the lead-up to her mention, the court heard.

Ms Ellis adjourned the matter for one week until May 15, 2025, saying she could not adjourn it further without the consent of the woman, who said she did not know how long she would need.

She was remanded in custody.
