A determined woman is spearheading a plan for an inclusive market with food vans, interactive stalls and a special ‘surprise’ all part of the proposal.

A plan for a market on the Fraser Coast, to be held once a month in Granville’s Brendan Hansen Park, has been met with excitement by the community.
Tracey Chilcott is leading the way in the push for the new market, which she said would be very different from the existing markets across the region.

Several posts by Ms Chilcott on the Maryborough community Facebook pages attracted dozens of reactions and comments as people expressed their interest in the proposed market.

She met with Fraser Coast councillors Daniel Sanderson and Paul Truscott this week and Ms Chilcott said they were supportive of bringing the idea to life.

“My idea was to bring more community to our smaller communities,” Ms Chilcott said.

“I wanted to create something different to what we have, something interactive and all inclusive.

“I’m still reaching out to people. I wanted to limit the number of stalls selling similar items.

“I want it to be something for pets, children, adults and families.

“There will be food vans, a sausage sizzle and much more.

“I’ve reached out to mental health for inclusion and also things for troubled teens.

“(I’m) looking to include demonstrations and make it interactive.

“If stall holders want children to learn what they do and offer low-cost activities then go for it.

“I even have even a big surprise up my sleeve for the event that I’m looking forward to share.

“I’m incredibly excited about the hint earlier - all inclusive.

“I really do want to thank Paul and Daniel for supporting this idea and I hope the community back this and we are able to get the go ahead.”

Mr Sanderson said he was supportive of the proposed market.

“It’s great to see interest for a new event of this type to be held in Granville’s Brendan Hansen Park,” he said.

“The park would make a great backdrop for a new event like what is being proposed to occur.

“Some things still need to occur before the event is a definite goer.

“Once these things are worked through by the organiser, advice can then be provided to the wider community whether it’s definitely proceeding or not.

“I congratulate Tracey’s passion and proactive approach in the steps she has taken so far.”

Mr Truscott said he felt the community would be excited by the prospect of a new market.

“It’s exciting when there are community groups that have expressed interest in wanting to put on an activity or event for our community,” he said.

“As a council we want to encourage and support that wherever possible.

“Councillor Sanderson and myself are working with the organisers and just trying to jump through the necessary hoops and look forward to seeing this progress as we think there will be great interest from the community.”
