Playing her favourite music and wearing purple in her honour, the life of a much-loved Hervey Bay mum, allegedly killed in a hit and run incident last month, has been remembered.

Tash Raven, 43, was walking home from a night out when she was allegedly struck by a driver on Boundary Rd in Urangan.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, she died at the scene.

Last week, 41-year-old Urangan man Brett David Eddy faced court charged with manslaughter, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence and driver fail to exhibit proper respect to deceased showing callous disregard for the needs of a person.

He did not apply for bail and the matter was adjourned until July 25.

At her funeral on Monday, those gathered did not focus on the final moments of her life.

Instead they focused on the love, laughter and joy Ms Raven had brought into their lives with her larger-than-life energy, her caring nature and loving personality.

Purple was Ms Raven’s favourite colour.

Her casket was purple and those who attended the packed Orana Chapel at J Kirk & Sons’ Hervey Bay Crematorium were also dressed in the colour to honour her life.

During the service, Ms Raven was remembered as someone who cared for and protected her loved ones any time they were in need.

The congregation was told she was someone who could always see the funny side, even when everything was going wrong or when nothing went as planned.

A collection of photos showed how loved she was, with moments with her friends, family and beloved son Axl showing the moving highlights of a life well lived.

One mourner, Lauren, spoke of her memories of Ms Raven, who she met at a gym.

The pair became fast friends.

“It’s been really hard to write about someone I really can’t believe is not with us all,” she said.

Ms Raven had a strong sense of justice for herself and her friends, Lauren said.

She filled her life with cats and dogs, lizards and snakes, always keen to adopt an animal in need.

Before Ms Raven died, everything was falling into place, with the love she had for her son, Axl, 15, work and footy club, Bay Power, filling her life and making it complete, her friend said.

“I’m sorry this happened to you,” Lauren said.

“I’m lost but I’m so happy to have had you not only as a sister but as a best friend.”

One friend, trying to read the poem Dead is Nothing at All in Ms Raven’s honour, could not continue after the first line.

Ms Raven’s brother, Alistair, took over, reading the touching words.

“Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still,” he said.

Afterwards, he spoke of focusing on the great memories of Ms Raven and the special moments they had shared – the times they had laughed and cried together.

“I get to keep the memory of her laughing,” Alistair said.

“They don’t disappear just because Tash has died.”

He encouraged people to be a little bit more caring and kind in her honour.

“We can still dance. We can still celebrate. We can still smile,” he said.

“We’re allowed to cry.”

The community has been in mourning since Ms Raven’s death, with a paddle out held in her honour on June 1.

Fraser Coast Stand Up Paddle Board Club president Sara Ashdown led the paddle out, saying that Tash had been learning the activity and had loved being out on the water.

The community has raised more than $47,000 towards Tash’s funeral and to help support Axl in the wake of the tragedy.
