Drug driving
A 51-year-old Western Downs man appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence of drugs.
The court was told that about 9am on April 29 he was intercepted by police on the Moonie Highway and subjected to a breath test before being taken to the police station for a supplementary test.
He returned a positive reading for THC and confessed to police he was using prescribed medical marijuana for cancer.
He told the court he had been driving to a medical appointment when he was pulled over.
He said knowing he was on medical marijuana he never drove but his wife had been up late with their baby so he’d chosen to drive that day.
He had no like offending and was sentenced to a $350 and one month loss of licence.
No conviction was recorded.
Failing to give a statutory declaration
A Dalby man also appeared in court and pleaded guilty to one count of failing to give a statutory declaration following an incident on December 13, 2024.
The court was told about 5.46pm on December 8 a white Mitsubishi with NSW plates overtook police on the wrong side of the road on the Warrego Highway and sped off with police giving chase for a short time before they halted the pursuit.
Several days later police attended a Western Downs home in relation to a separate matter and found the car out the front of the house.
They also found the plates which had been removed from the car.
The defendant told police he had just sold the car and refused to answer who was driving on the day of the evasion.
He was convicted and not further punished.
No conviction was recorded.
Drink and unlicensed driving
A Tara man appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and driving while unlicensed.

The driver returned a reading of 0.064 and told police he had drunk two XXXX beers an hour and a half earlier.
The licence check revealed he was also unlicensed since March 8.
He told the court he had previously lost his licence for three months and didn't realise he needed to reapply to get his licence back.
He was fined $500 and received a three month loss of licence.
No conviction was recorded.
