A magistrate has labelled a Dalby man as “controlling” after he abandoned his infant to stalk his ex-partner while she was on a night out.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, appeared in the Dalby Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to breaching a domestic violence order imposed on February 17.
On March 19 police attended the address of the aggrieved finding a number of text from the respondent threatening suicide.
Magistrate Kathleen Payne described the offending as “controlling” and said to threaten suicide was the highest form of emotional abuse.
Meanwhile on March 29 the respondent attempted to contact the aggrieved while she was on a night out and when she didn't respond he set up a laptop as a makeshift baby monitor for their infant child and using snapchat tracked her to a nearby pub.
The man’s lawyer said his client had been struggling since the pairs break up on February 9 and he was aware there was an order in place when he tracked her to the pub.
The man told the court after his ex-partner hadn't responded for two hours he was concerned for her welfare and went to look for her.
Magistrate Kathleen Payne was not buying the excuse.
“You can’t be serious, that holds no weight,” she said.
“In this day and age someone is allowed to spend a night out and not have to respond to you, I see thousands of men like you.”
He was fined $1500 and no conviction was recorded.
