Dalby Magistrates Court: Six drivers face licence suspensions

From a man who was caught drink driving after the loss of a family member to a young woman caught driving after smoking meth, these are the offenders who faced court this week

Several drivers have learnt a lesson in checking their demerit points after they were caught unknowingly driving while suspended while others were caught red handed under the influence.

Here is everyone who faced court for driving offences on Tuesday.

Jade Anthony Brookes

Jade Brookes appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle while suspended and driving with an unregistered trailer.

The court was told on April 16 about 6pm in Tara, Brookes was intercepted by police after they noticed his trailer had no plates and its registration had expired on March 26, 2024.

Police also discovered Brookes was unlicensed and had been SPER suspended since February 14.

Upon hearing there would be a mandatory loss of licence Jade became agitated saying he needed a licence to work and didn't know he was unlicensed.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne suggested Jade didn't seem particularly remorseful and sentenced him to a $558 fine and a one month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.

Selwyn Job Windsor

Selwyn Job Windsor, 27, appeared in court and pleaded guilty to drink driving after an incident on June 17.

The court was told at about 12.30pm Windsor was intercepted on Drayton St and subjected to an RBT, returning a reading of 0.076.

Windsor’s lawyer told the court his client had recently lost his brother and was drinking and talking through the loss at a friend’s house.

He then made the decision to drive to a family member’s house and was intercepted on the way.

Windsor, who had two previous drink driving offences, was fined $750 and received a six month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.

Waisea Ledua

Ledua, 36, fronted court and pleaded guilty to driving while demerit point suspended following an incident on June 19.

The court was told Ledua was randomly intercepted on the Warrego Highway and found to have been suspended since April 8.

Ledua said he was unaware he was suspended.

He was fined $450 and received a six month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.

Jacob Phillip Renwick

Renwick, 20, pleaded guilty to driving while unlicensed following an incident on June 15.

Renwick was intercepted on Milne St, Tara about 5.15pm and it was discovered his NSW license was SPER suspended

He was fined $300 and received a one month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.

Magi Enrique Santiago

Santiago, 31, pleaded guilty to driving while on a suspended licence after he was intercepted on Miles St, Dalby on June 15 about 12.30am.

The court was told his international licence had been suspended since March 28.

Santiago, who was from Argentina, said the letter warning him of his suspended licence had been sent to an old address and he was unaware.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne said it was a driver's responsibility to ensure they were up to date with their licence.

He was fined $300 and received a one month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.

Emily Boyle

Boyle also appeared in court and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs.

The court was told Boyle was intercepted for an RBT on June 10 on Fry St, Miles returning a positive reading to methamphetamine.

Boyle admitted to police that she had smoked meth that morning.

Boyle who had no prior convictions was sentenced to a one month loss of licence.

No conviction was recorded.
