The former owner of a Darling Downs pub has fronted court after she threw a beer in the face of her ex-husband's new partner during a fight over a phone.
Leanne Gai Warhurst, 63, appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of public nuisance, which was also a domestic violence offence.
The court was told Ms Warhurst and her ex-husband had been in a relationship for 35 years and during that time owned the Bowenville Hotel.
After their marriage had broken down the court was told her former husband found himself a new partner and they were in the process of selling the pub.
The court was told that on August 29, 2024 Warhurst had attended a hotel where her former husband and his new partner were staying and got into an argument over a phone which she said belonged to her but had been gifted to the new partner.
The pair reportedly got into a scuffle over the phone with Warhurst screaming abuse at the woman before she grabbed a beer and threw it in the woman’s face.
The incident was observed by a number of shocked onlookers.
Warhurst’s lawyer told the court her client was 63 and had never been in trouble with the law before.
Furthermore they said she was under a significant amount of stress having to sell the pub which her and her then husband had owned since 2016 and had acted out of character.
Warhurst was convicted and not further punished and no conviction was recorded.
