The wife of a man who police allege fired a round of gunshots in a Dalby home has fronted court after she allegedly tried to hide the weapon from authorities in a toilet.
Joanne Jane O’Brien had her matters mentioned in Dalby Magistrates Court on August 29 after her husband allegedly shot a gun multiple times in their home, and she attempted to hide it from police officers who attended the residence.
The woman did not appear in court as her personal appearance was excused.
The 51-year-old man applied for bail in court on June 19 where the details were outlined and it was said Mr O’Brien’s wife asked officers if she could use the bathroom, then police heard the sound of what was described as a “porcelain lid being closed” coming from the toilet.
Magistrate Kyna Morice at the time read the police report details which shared that the police found the handgun in the toilet cistern.
Mr O’Brien was originally charged with dangerous conduct with a weapon, possessing weapons while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unlawful possession of weapons to commit an indictable offence, obstruct police and possessing dangerous drugs.
He was refused bail.
Mrs O’Brien was also charged at the time with accessories after the fact and unlawful possession of weapons.
Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins told court on Tuesday that he was seeking an adjournment to finalise the woman’s charges as he had been made aware that Mr O’Brien’s charge had been upgraded to one count of attempted murder which may alter his wife’s charges.
Ms Morice adjourned the matter for mention on September 12.
