A Toowoomba labourer had a “bad week” according to a Dalby Magistrate, after he was busted twice for drug driving in the span of a week.
Izaak Vincent Killeen faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with two counts of driving with a relevant drug in his system while the holder of a provisional licence.
The court heard the young driver was first intercepted by police along Bridge Street in Toowoomba on April 18, where he returned a positive result for THC.
Police prosecutor sergeant Derek Brady said Killeen was then stopped by police along Drayton Street in Dalby on April 25, where he returned a positive indication for THC again, and also meth.
Magistrate Tracy Mossop told Killeen that he had to figure out what was more important, being able to drive to work to earn a living, or engaging in illegal drugs.
She was shocked at how Killeen had tested positive for “flamin’ ice” after being charged only a week prior with drug driving.
“I don’t know what it is with young people who just want to abuse their bodies,” she said.
Killeen pleaded guilty and was fined $200 for the first drug driving offence, and disqualified from driving for three months.
For the second offence he was fined $400, and disqualified for a further three months.
Both disqualifications were cumulative.
No convictions were recorded.
