Studio renamed after radio legend

4DDD Community Radio have honoured a long time member of the team, Reg Kerslake, by renaming a studio after the infamous announcer

THE 4DDD Community radio station has renamed one of their studios in honour of an iconic Dalby announcer. The team at 4DDD gathered together for their Christmas breakup party to unveil the Reg Kerslake Studio, formerly known as Studio A.

Reg Kerslake was a prominent figure at Gallery 107 for a lot of his life. He played an important role in starting up the station in October of 1991. The retired announcer was a member of the Dalby Amateur Radio Club who, with the Dalby Rotary Club, established Dalby Community Radio 27 years ago.

Mr Kerslake was previously president and manager for 4DDD, and was also a popular announcer in his time. The radio personality is responsible for training most of the team who work at the station now, and at one point was even the technical director for the station and its shows.

A jack of all trades with a knack for making people laugh, he is known for his cheeky personality and outstanding announcing skills. Mr Kerslake had to retire from his duties earlier this year due to his health.

This did not stop Chairman James Wagner from wanting to rename the studio in honour of the legendary announcer.

Mr Wagner says that Mr Kerslake was such an important figure at the station that it was an easy decision to make to rename the studio after him.

"If it wasn't for Reg the station would never be here. If it wasn't for Reg I wouldn't be here and a lot of people in this community wouldn't have had the opportunity to get on air and to see what it's like to be in the media.”

Sean Pocock has been an announcer at the station since 2010. Reg Kerslake helped Mr Pocock get his start in radio.

"He's awesome,” Mr Pocock said about Kerslake.

"It was good to have him be the boss man a few years ago, and it's so good that this place is still running and has been for 27 years now.”

A new plaque was unveiled on Friday in front of the Community Radio team.

Mr Kerslake summed up the whole experience with just four simple words.

"Well I'll be buggared!”
