A Central Highlands man has been charged with sexually abusing a child under 12 in his care.

The man, aged in his 30s, appeared in Emerald Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of indecent treatment of a lineal descendant aged under 12.

He did not enter a plea.

An application was made by police prosecutor Tasman Murphy to transfer the matters.

“I make an application for this matter to be transferred to Mackay given the possible conflicts arising in the legal community in Emerald,” he said.

Solicitor Jordana Abela did not object to the request.

A brief of evidence was sought by Ms Abela.

Mr Murphy told the court it would take six weeks for a brief to be compiled.

The matter was adjourned for a committal mention in Mackay Magistrates Court on January 24.

The man was released on bail.
