Steven Scott Neill sentenced after threatening to run over neighbour’s kids

An ongoing dispute boiled over when a Central Queensland driver threatened to run over a neighbour’s children.

A Central Queensland driver has faced court after he threatened to run over a neighbour’s children.

Steven Scott Neill, 43, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said about 1.30pm on August 9, Neill was driving when he “slammed his car brakes on” at the front of a house in his neighbourhood.

Sgt Hoskins said Neill then started yelling abuse at a neighbour including: “Keep your f---ing daughter’s mouth shut, your daughter is so disrespectful”.

“He continued to yell out abuse directed at the neighbours that went on for about quarter of an hour.”

Sgt Hoskins said about 3pm, a neighbour was reversing out of their driveway when Neill, driving his car, slowed down and “put his finger up out the window.”

The prosecutor said Neill then yelled to the neighbour: “Tell your f---ing kids, keep their mouths shut, next time I see them I’ll run over them.”

Sgt Hoskins said Neill’s actions were intimidating.

The court heard Neill had a six-page criminal history and at the time of committing this offence, he was on a suspended sentence for unlike offending and probation.

A self-represented Neill told Magistrate Mary Buchanan the incidents stemmed from an ongoing saga with these neighbours.

Ms Buchanan fined Neill $600 and she extended the operational period of the suspended sentence by three months.

A conviction was recorded.
