A tough and quick thinking Queenslander bitten by a snake miles from anywhere has managed to drive himself 2km to where he could call for help and turn his shirt into a makeshift tourniquet.

A tough young Queenslander bitten by a snake in the middle of nowhere on Thursday morning managed to drive himself 2km to where he could call for help before using his shirt as a tourniquet until help arrived.
It was a busy morning for the rescue chopper crew near Bundaberg.
They had picked up a quad bike rider with a broken leg near Horse Camp, south west of Bundaberg, and taken him to Bundaberg Hospital about 8.30am.
The man aged in his 40s had hit a tree on his quad on H H Innes Road.
The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew were then tasked at 10.29am to Gaeta, east of Monto, where a man in his 20s had been bitten by a snake while mowing.
It is believed he felt the snake bite him on the leg while cutting long grass and drove 2km to his home before calling 000.
He applied a shirt as a makeshift bandage before local QAS paramedics and LifeFlight arrived.
The paramedics applied a pressure immobilisation bandage, gave him pain relief and splinted his leg.
He was driven to an awaiting LifeFlight helicopter and flown to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment.
