A hectare-block of land near Bundaberg Landscape Supplies on Ashfield Road at Rubyanna east of Bundaberg Central will be home to the future state-of-the-art fire and emergency services facility for the region.

The new land has been bought by the state government for a future facility to complement the existing Queensland Fire Department facility in Thabeban.

Fire and Disaster Recovery Minister Nikki Boyd and Labor MP for Bundaberg Tom Smith made the announcement in Bundaberg on Tuesday, saying the community would be future proofed with the purchase of land.

“Bundaberg has experienced continued growth across the region, which means the demand for land is also increasing,” a state government statement said on the announcement.

Fire and Disaster Recovery Minister Nikki Boyd and Labor MP for Bundaberg Tom Smith made the announcement in Bundaberg on Tuesday, saying the community would be future proofed with the purchase of land.

“Following an extensive land search and analysis of operational demand in the area, Minister Nikki Boyd today announced Queensland Fire Department has secured land for future development,” it said.

The strategically located 1-hectare site sits at 131 Ashfield Road, Rubyanna, east of Bundaberg Central.

“QFD will closely monitor future growth in the region and consult with the community before finalising plans for the facilities on the land and deciding which services will be provided from the site,” the statement read.

“Bundaberg is a growing community welcoming many new families, businesses, and industries into our region thanks to the record investment into jobs, health, and education by the Miles Labor Government,” Mr Smith said.

“As our population increases, so will the infrastructure delivery of houses, factories, shopping centres, restaurants, cafes, and community facilities.

“This means that our frontline services need the infrastructure, equipment, and personnel to best serve an expanding community.

“I know firsthand the incredible work our local firefighters do in protecting properties and lives across Bundaberg, which is why I have listened to them and delivered this future-proofing new fire station.

“This is another major delivery item that is developing Bundaberg into a regional Queensland powerhouse.”

Ms Boyd said the 2023-24 state budget allocated $2 million to secure an appropriate site for the fire and emergency service infrastructure Bundaberg would need in coming years.

“With the demand for land also going up, this land purchase is a prudent step and secures a space for emergency response infrastructure to expand alongside the community,” she said.
