Until the voting was spun on its head on the weekend, World Gym Bundaberg was battling it out with the runner up for first place.

Freshly open in April 2023, the gym finished the poll in third place with 18 per cent of the vote.

Owner and managing director Justin Bellas said they were striving to become the number one fitness centre in Queensland.

According to Mr Bellas, the newly built World Gym Bundaberg, which spans 3500sq m, is the largest World Gym in Australia.

“At World Gym Bundaberg we offer inclusivity, welcoming every stage, age and ability within a complete training environment,” he said.

With 24/7 access, the gym offers a range of fitness, relaxation and health sections, as well as a seven day week childminding Kid’s World.

After opening about four months ago, Growth Gyms Avoca secured the runner-up position with 19 per cent of the vote, edging out World Gym for second place.

Owner Zak Menhennet said he opened Growth Gyms as a part of his life goal to help 100,00o people.

“Growth Gyms was opened to help people with their physical and mental health and with that in mind personal growth; that’s where the name Growth Gyms came from,” Mr Menhennet said.

The gym’s logo is a vertical brain with muscles, symbolising that a strong body and mind are one, illustrating the gym’s main focus around mental health and giving back to the community.

With a growing team of five, Growth Gyms was awarded the Best Gym Bundy and Best Customer Service Bundy of any Business in the Triple M & Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce Awards 2023, within its first month of opening.

“Everything we are able to achieve is because of the team we have built; in respect to the members the team has attracted,” he said.

By a landslide, Raw Awakening took out the top spot for Bundaberg’s best gym of 2023 with 37 per cent of the votes, almost double the votes for the runners-up.

Owner Tataina Quinn said she opened the Quay St gym in 2019 after she noticed a gap in the region’s fitness industry, deciding that Raw Awakening’s main focus was to be accessible for everyone.

“We are very community focused so we keep our memberships very low, which also includes unlimited classes and 24-hour access,” she said.

Ms Quinn said they also run youth programs, a disability gym, aerobics and dance classes and other programs which are suitable for ages three and up.
