The artistic duo behind one of Brisbane's iconic alternative fashion brands has relocated to Bundaberg and opened a new boutique for eclectic shoppers.

Luke Frusher and Christine Woods have received huge support since opening Voodoo Lulu at 37 Woongarra St on July 1.

Ms Woods spent five years in the late 90s working as a designer in New York where she sold handmade corsets to Courtney Love and her daughter.

The business rose to fame after launching in 1993, with the pair now focusing on their embroidery and upholstery at their new location.

Despite handing official business rights to Mr Frusher, Ms Woods remains as face of the brand, and works at the store.

Two decades since launching the business Ms Woods said she always had a passion for alternative fashion.

“I was younger and full of ideas, and always wanted to have my own shop,” she said.

While smaller than the Fortitude Valley boutique, Ms Woods said the Bundaberg store still offered a range of fashion niches from rockabilly to gothic and old-world Victorian.

An online store is also in the works with a September launch date expected, with the aim to promote its brands including Ms Woods’ own Decadence Divine, Moonshine and Tombstones and Christine Woods Originals.

“Our shop is a little different to other alternative shops because he (Mr Frusher) does a lot of the art work and I do a lot of the clothing,” Ms Woods said.

The store is lovingly furnished with Mr Frusher’s handmade furniture, which varies from the classically gothic to bright and bold pieces.

Ms Woods said she felt joy in being able to meet and engage with like minded people throughout the community.

“(We) noticed a lot of alternative people walking around Bundaberg, but I didn’t realise just how many were here,” she said.

“We’ve had a really good reception, everyone’s happy that we’ve opened here.”

Voodoo Lulu is open from Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday from 10am am to 2pm.
