The Sydney Harbour Tunnel has reopened after an overheight truck forced the closure of the major passage during peak hour on Monday morning.
Motorists heading into the city from Artarmon were being diverted, with authorities urging drivers to use the Sydney Harbour Bridge as an alternative route while the tunnel was closed.
Shortly before 9am, the tunnel reopened but southbound delays are still heavy, with queues banked back about 8km to Lane Cove.
“UPDATE: All southbound lanes have reopened in the Harbour Tunnel,” Live Traffic NSW said on X.
“Southbound traffic remains heavy so continue to allow extra travel time while conditions return to normal.”
Delays are expected to persist as traffic builds in the area. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow for significant travel time adjustments.
