Five rushed to hospital after two car crash at Tatham, near Casino

A head-on crash in northern NSW has resulted in a man being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious conditions and four more people, including small children, being rushed to Lismore Base Hospital.

A head-on crash in northern NSW has resulted in a man being flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition and four more people, including small children, being rushed to Lismore Base Hospital.

About 5.05pm on Monday, multiple emergency agencies attended the scene of a two car crash on Casino-Coraki Road, Tatham – 16km east of Casino where a Hyundai sedan and a Mazda hatchback had collided.

A NSW Police spokesperson said a 42-year-old man driving the Hyundai was uninjured.

The driver trapped inside the Mazda is understood to be a 26-year-old woman who sustained serious chest and leg injuries.

NSW Rural Fire Service were at the scene providing fire protection to those trapped while Casino VRA liaised with ambulance paramedics to set up hydraulic rescue equipment to formulate numerous extrication plans.

Other VRA members continued to assist paramedics and the Westpac Rescue helicopter critical care team with lifts and holding medical equipment.

A male passenger in the Mazda was stabilised and flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

NSW paramedics attended to the 26-year-old driver with serious chest and leg injuries, a teenage boy who sustained facial and leg injuries, a young girl who sustained leg injuries, and another woman aged in her 30s with leg injuries.

Two young boys were also attended to for minor injuries.

“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash commenced and inquiries are ongoing,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
