Digital street advertising is becoming more popular and Toowoomba is not immune to it. The latest in a series of billboards has now been proposed for the CBD.

More digital billboards are being added to the Toowoomba CBD, with the owners of Grand Central Shopping Centre submitting plans for their own advertising devises.

Queensland Investment Corporation lodged an application with the Toowoomba Regional Council last week for a new 9m-tall electronic billboard on the side of the centre near the corner of Victoria and Margaret Streets.

In total, the billboard will sit more than 19m off the ground and in direct view of a busy intersection.

If approved, it would become at least the fourth digital billboard built in the Toowoomba CBD over the past few years.

According to the report by Emmett Herps Town Planning, the sign will be able to adjust its luminescence throughout the day.

“The proposed sign is sited to primarily capture viewership travelling east along Margaret Street,” the report said.

“Given the absence of sensitive receivers within the surrounding area, and the location being within Toowoomba City, it is proposed for operation of the proposed sign to be 24 hours per day.

“The proposed sign has capability to change its luminance level automatically in response to a change in ambient lighting conditions.”

It comes after three other billboards were approved and built since 2017, including two up the road at the intersection of Ruthven and Margaret Streets and another at the corner of Ruthven and Victoria Streets.
