Toowoomba Autumn Rose Show another success in 2024

Despite some dreary weather in the lead up to the annual Toowoomba Autumn Rose Show, growers turned up in droves to display their blooming buds.
The event, hosted by the Queensland Rose Society Darling Downs branch across Saturday and Sunday, saw an encouraging number of green thumbs stroll through Newtown Park.
Queensland Rose Society Darling Downs group member Leo Cooper said although flower numbers were down this year, the event remained a success.
“It was very encouraging to see the number of people come through this year, we were down in flowers because of the overcast weather slowing them down,” he said.
Mr Cooper said the 2024 event saw the inclusion of a new exhibit for novice growers, which saw a Rosewood man’s bloom crowned grand champion.
“It’s very encouraging for him and just goes to show that you don’t need to be a top category grower to win,” he said.
Mr Cooper said the novice win was a reminder that all flowers have the ability to be a winner.
“People still have to bring flowers to put on a show for the public and that’s what we do it for,” he said.
“A lot of people who are looking for inspiration come to the event and get their inspiration from the show bench.”
A standout from the crowd this year for Mr Cooper was a new hybrid rose called ‘Beautiful Girl’.
The next rose show for the Darling Downs branch will be held in spring at Newtown Park on October 12 and 13.
