A Toowoomba couple’s home turf has won a citywide lawn competition, judged by Broncos captain Adam Reynolds, scoring an amazing prize in the process.

Watching grass grow for two months was actually a delight for Brenton Rouhan — especially because of the prize at the end of it.
The Toowoomba man and his wife Kiri took out the top gong against five other finalists in Mort and Co Fertilisers’ Lawn of Fame competition, which challenged Garden City growers to create the best home turf using the company’s own lawn feed.
Mr Rouhan called his entry a “labour of love”, but said he was thrilled with the end result.
“When we initially signed up, there was really no criteria, so we decided our lawn as TifTuf, and we went into it a bit blindly,” he said at the award night at The Lighthouse Toowoomba on January 31.
“I’d only just finished doing a full renovation, so we took a look at it and realised the lawn was just dirt.
“It was eight weeks of hard work, mowing, fertilising, watering.”
One of the competition’s judges included Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds, who caused a stir outside Mr Rouhan’s Middle Ridge home when he rocked up to assess the turf.
“It was really unreal, we love NRL, we ended up with the kids from all the neighbourhoods coming over,” he said.
“We had to go and get a brand-new football so Adam could sign it,” Ms Rouhan added.
Along with the consistency, colour and neatness of the turf, the couple’s finishing touch of a mini golf hole was a hit with the Broncos skipper.
“He decided to put a minigolf course into the lawn because he loves golf and his lawn, so why not combine his two loves?” Ms Rouhan said.
“(Adam and I) had a game of golf out the front, of course neither of us managed to get the shots in,” Mr Rouhan joked.
For taking out the top prize, the couple scored a luxury trip to Singapore.
