For one night only Toowoomba’s beloved Phat Burgers will make their grand return, teaming up with an equally iconic venue for a night of food, fun, and nostalgia.

The team will join forces with Toowoomba’s only dedicated retro gaming venue Flipp’d as part of the Phat Laps event – a celebration of classic burgers, arcade action, and car culture.

Tucked away in Club Lane, Flipp’d offers a unique mix of classic pinball machines, old-school video games and has been quietly building a reputation as Toowoomba’s hidden gem for more than three years.

It has been some years since Toowoomba residents have been able to enjoy a Phat Burger, with the venue shutting up shop in 2022 when their Ruthven St site was demolished to make way for a new NAB branch.

The Phat Burgers team is hosting Phat Laps this Saturday, a car meet where motor-heads can take their cars to the street and complete laps of Ruthven and Margaret streets from 4pm before pulling up in Annand St for a car meet.

Flipp’d owner Jon Quinlivan said after hearing about Phat Laps he got on the phone to Phat Burgers and proposed the collaboration.

“When I heard the Phats boys were organising Phat Laps, I knew what was missing was the burgers so I offered up Flipp’d as the perfect venue to join forces,” he said.

“This weekend is about celebrating the long-lost dining experience with Phat Burgers.

“They’ve been closed for some time, we miss them and we’d love to see them back so I thought let's get the boys back here, they got back to us the next day and said let's do it.

“Al (Allan Wynn) is also one of our biggest supporters and holds plenty of high-scores on our pinball machines. That’s what really got us talking about how we can bring Phat Burgers and the arcade experience together.

“It’s really important that we collaborate. Toowoomba City has been a little bit quieter in recent years and businesses are struggling so it's important to support each other.

“This is a great chance to get down here and see the place, enjoy the classic cars driving past and a enjoy a Phat Burger which is rare these days.”

Phat Burgers’ Allan Wynn said he was excited for the team-up and encouraged people to come down, try a burger and enjoy a game.

“I was a bit presumptuous in the beginning, it feels like the past now even though I get calls every week asking when we are reopening,” he said.

“I love this place though and it’s a bit exciting, it reminds me of what we used to do everyday, it's nice to be a part of it and I’m getting really good feedback.

“I’m only doing a couple of burgers (like) the Van Helsing and Fog Horn but I’ll see how many people are interested, if I get people asking for a specific burger I’ll do another 30 or 40 of those burgers.

“We are excited for Flipp’d because the car guys are nostalgic and like all the old arcades so I’m hoping a bunch of them come this way

“There is also a lucky door prize with a fantastic super Nintendo up for grabs.”
